We thought that by just having the Christmas music over the top of the trailer was too plain and we needed some suspenseful music over the top of the unpleasant moments. for example when one of the guests hands fall, it seemed quid morbid to have Christmas music playing still, therefore we added this track instead to emphasize how dramatic the moment is.
After using suspenseful music we felt that the music made the trailer seem slower an it needed more fast pace music over the top. But most of the music we found online didn't blend well with the Christmas music, as it gave a sudden change in the atmosphere. Therefore we chose this track of creepy doll music because it has a similar tempo and melody to traditional Christmas music. When looking at our research the trailer of 'Psycho' had high pitched music that had the connotative effect of suspense and built up the adrenaline. We wanted to take this idea and use it in our trailer. The creepy doll music is rather high pitched, just like the non-diegetic music in 'Psycho' we wanted to clearly show the change in atmosphere of the trailer and foreshadow the traumatic events to come for the guests. Building up the adrenaline and anticipation for the audience.
To add to the realism of the trailer to try to make it as real as possible for the audience causing them to actually fear Scarlett Rosewood we added the sound effect of a door knocker. which also creates enigma codes for 'who's at the door?'
During some moments in our thriller trailer the suspense was increasingly high, for example when the guest wake up, and when Alice's guests takes a sharp breath at the end. To emphasize these parts of the trailer we used dramatic sound effects of deep bass sounds, which really hits you when you watch it. this causes the audience to sympathize with the guest from that bad feeling.
